Make A Card Challenge Week 2 - Card Layers

Good Morning Everyone! Are you ready for week two of the "Make A Card Challenge"? I am and I am so glad to see so many of you who have joined in the fun! Last week, we focused on making just the card base. This week, we will use a paper trimmer to cut each of the card's layers. Here's a hint: if you cut card layers in multiple sizes and colors, you can save them in ziploc bags and use them later for quickly making a card. Now on to the challenge! Don't forget to leave a comment on this post telling me about your progress. Remember not only is a picture of your final card needed for the prize drawing, but you must also respond weekly. Enjoy!

Materials: Paper Trimmer, two sheets of cardstock (one that matches your card base, and a neutral color, preferably white)

1. Cut two card layers from the white cardstock at 5 1/4" x 4. One will be your 1st card layer and the second will go on the inside of the card.

2. Cut one card layer from the matching color cardstock at 5" x 3 3/4". This will make your 2nd card layer.

3. Cut one final card layer from the white cardstock at 4 3/4" x 3 1/2". This will make your 3rd card layer.

4. When you finish, each of the layers will fit on your card base like the picture below.

  1. I love layers and have found that they really set the card off to a nice balance. Thanks for the tip - I actually used to do that - will have to get back in the groove! :)

  2. Cool Terry! I find card layers are a quick way to go when you need to make a card quickly, plus the layers are pleasing to the eye!

  3. Ok. I think I'm reading something on my Trimmer wrong. When I cut out the 2nd layer, it doesn't look right. There's too much space on the sides. and no matter how I cut it on the trimmer (portrait or landscape) it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

  4. Tess, go back and look at your measurements again. Make sure you are cutting the second layer at 5 x 3 3/4. Sometimes it's hard for me to see the measurements on my trimmer (I'm getting older:), so I took a permanent marker and wrote them in.
